SBS Software Developer Internship Job Description
 
In partnership with the Department of Small Business Services (SBS), the 
CUNY Institute for Software Design and Development (CISDD) has an exciting 
internship position available for CUNY students. The program allows 
students to receive practical hands-on training and experience while 
assisting SBS in achieving their long-term objectives. The internship will 
be at SBS offices in NYC and the position is categorized as a Strategic 
Operations Intern. Although the location is at SBS, this is considered an 
on-campus position. 
 
Qualifications and Skills Required for SBS interns:
 
Current CUNY registered undergraduate and graduate students
Available to work part-time 19 hours per week
Authorized to work under INS laws for on-campus jobs
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; comfortable interacting 
with diverse constituencies
Excellent writing and editing skills
Strong Microsoft PowerPoint and presentation skills
Interest in communications, organizational change and strategic planning
Experience with HTML and SQL skills are pluses
Solid understanding of the Internet and Internet Technology
Responsibilities:
In February of 2007, the Operations and Technology unit launched the 
Agency?s first comprehensive intranet site, affectionately referred to as 
WOMT (work organization management tool). The site includes a wide array 
of features and topics, ranging from organizational charts to forms, and 
has revolutionized the way units within the Agency communicate information 
and interact with one another. For the first time ever, information is 
widely available and easily accessible. The Strategic Operations unit 
seeks an intern to help shape the future of this tool, to think creatively 
and strategically, to help units leverage this tool effectively, and to 
continue to further the utility of this tool. 
Support the Strategic Operations? efforts to transform Agency 
communications and improve business process transparency. 
Serve as the Agency?s liaison to WOMT, receiving requests for postings, 
editing and organizing materials, and working to pro-actively shape the 
future of the tool. 
Identify new areas/features for development, as well as current areas for 
improvement. 
Independently gather, organize, synthesize, and post Agency-wide 
information.
Meet with unit staff and managers across the Agency to help units identify 
appropriate content and leverage WOMT effectively.
Work in conjunction with the Executive Director of Strategic Operations to 
develop an orientation guide for new employees to quickly familiarize 
themselves with City government and what it means to work in a City 
agency.
Help develop a methodology for communicating enhancements and new features 
and seek to increase the number of regular users.
Anticipated Projects and Goals for this intern:
Develop a two-year strategic plan for WOMT, creating a vision for how the 
Agency maximizes its use of this work management tool and outlining the 
high-level steps for achieving this goal.
Gain an understanding of how to identify and translate the communication 
needs of various business units into clear communications that help 
transform the Agency?s landscape into an efficient, information sharing, 
and transparent work environment.
Facilitate the transition of new employees into City government by 
developing a guide covering frequently asked questions and shedding light 
on common misconceptions.
Learn the basics of html using Adobe Dreamweaver.

$12 per hour
