CUNY 311 Project
Position Title: Database Manager (Full-time ? Flexible Schedule/Two 
Locations)
Department: Office of Academic Affairs
Location: Office of Academic Affairs - 311 Call Center & School of 
Professional Studies
CUNY 3-1-1 Project:
The CUNY 311 Project provides the opportunity for CUNY students to work as 
part time 311 Call Center
Representatives within New York City?s 311 Customer Service Center managed 
by the City of New York?s
Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT). The 
CUNY 311 Project provides the
human resources support for CUNY students selected from CUNY campuses by 
training students on 311 Customer
Service Center operations, monitoring on-site performance, and 
administering payroll.
School of Professional Studies:
The School of Professional Studies (SPS) offers courses and academic 
programs that meet the needs of adults
looking for new skills to advance in their careers and for employers 
looking to keep their edge in today's
competitive marketplace. SPS also offers current CUNY students access to 
specialized or unique academic
programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the CUNY 311 and SPS Project Directors, and in 
collaboration with appropriate CUNY 311
and SPS Project Staff, the Database Manager will work with the Projects 
performing the following tasks:
? Design, develop, deploy and maintain data management systems. Maintain 
current data tracking systems and
adapt systems to changing business needs. Generate documentation for 
in-house databases.
? Perform data tracking and reporting needs analysis with project staff 
and present analysis data to project
managers prior to development of new data tracking systems.
? Train project staff on the use of data management systems.
? Formulate automated and ad hoc data queries and summative reports and 
provide written interpretation and
summary of the outcomes.
? Design local back up procedures and formulate disaster recovery 
scenarios.
? Other duties as assigned by the Project Director.
Qualifications:
? Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems, 
with two (2) years experience in
data management for the public or private sector.
? Two (2) years experience in SQL Server and Access required. Knowledge of 
Oracle preferred.
? Knowledge of object oriented programming languages, C#.Net, Java, Visual 
Basic, VBA and HTML.
Knowledge of COBOL a plus.
? Experience in setting up new data management projects, with experience 
in testing and troubleshooting.
? Expertise in preparation of data for reporting purposes.
? Competence in presenting data with written interpretation and summary as 
the basis for reports.
? Ability to work as part of a focused management team and to manage 
independent projects.
? Experience in assisting colleagues in the use of the management system.
? Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite for statistical analysis and 
reporting.
? Strong written and oral communication skills required.
Salary: $48,000 - $53,000 ? 35 hours per week. Benefit package included.
